This Terminal command, called createinstallmedia, can create a bootable copy of the installer using any drive connected to your Mac. In this guide, we're going to use a USB flash drive, but you could also use a normal hard drive or SSD that's connected to your Mac. The process is the same, regardless of the destination. Whatever media you use to create the bootable Mac OS installer on, it will be completely erased by the createinstallmedia command, so be careful. If you have an older Mac though or a slow internet connetion, a bootable USB stick or SD-card may be a clever idea. All younger Macs can enter Internet Recovery by pressing option +command + R during startup. Method #1: Create Bootable USB/DVD on Mac Using Disk Utility. When formatting a document such as a resume, MS Word often inserts a large gap in the text--sometimes as much as half a page of blank space. When I try to delete the gap, moving the cursor from the continued text after the gap, it skips over the gap as if it's not even there, and deletes text from the previous point in the document before the gap. Use the Terminal to create a boot disk So you have your external drive, and the Sierra beta installer is in place. Now you’re going to use Terminal to create a boot drive. If you’ve never used Terminal before, don’t worry. This is pretty easy.

You should see the macOS Mojave USB installer disk. Simply select it and then press enter to boot from it. If you are looking to install the on your existing Mac, you can do so without the need to create a USB installer disk.

When High Sierra is finally released, you’ll be able to find it linked in the sidebar of the Mac App Store homepage. The macOS High Sierra download is relatively large at just over 5GB, so it may take some time to download depending on the speed of your Internet connection. Once it’s done, the High Sierra installer app will automatically launch. This app is how you would normally upgrade your Mac, but we don’t need to run it now for the purposes of creating our bootable USB installer. Therefore, close the installer app by pressing Command-Q on your keyboard.

Step 6: Select to Use a Thumb Drive No matter what size thumb drive you're using for this, select 'An 8 GB USB thumb drive' from the next window. Again, an 8 GB stick might not actually be big enough, so you'll probably need a 16 GB or larger stick.

As the support software is designed specifically for each Mac, it might not function properly if you try to run the downloaded support software on a Mac other than the model that you’re using to prepare the bootable USB. And if you plan to install Windows 8.1 on this Mac, keep that option checked to automatically download all support software on to the USB so that you can easily install all drivers after installing Windows 8.1 on your Mac.
